Gautam Adani
Gautam Adani ( Ahmedabad, 24 June 1962 ) is an Indian entrepreneur, billionaire, president, and founder of 1988 the Adani Group, a multinational company based in Ahmedabad, engaged in port development and operations in India.
Over time it has diversified the business into resources, logistics, energy, agriculture, defense, and aerospace. According to Forbes and Bloomberg, his family's wealth is estimated at $ 49.9 billion in March 2021. He is the second richest man in India.
He is president of the Adani Foundation, led by his wife.

Biography
Gautam Adani was born on June 24, 1962, into a Jain family from Shantilal and Shanti Adani in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He has 7 siblings and his parents emigrated from the city of Tharad in the northern part of Gujarat. His father was a textile merchant. He was educated at the Sheth Chimanlal Nagindas Vidyalaya school in Ahmedabad.
He enrolled at the University of Gujarat, to get a degree in business and economics, but dropped out after the second year. Adani was a fan of entrepreneurship, but not of his father's textile business.
Activities
In 1978, as a teenager, Adani moved to Mumbai to work as a diamond grader for Mahendra Brothers. He worked there for 2-3 years before establishing his own diamond brokerage firm at the Zaveri Bazaar in Mumbai.
In 1981, his older brother Mansukhbhai Adani bought a plastic unit in Ahmedabad and invited him to manage operations. This venture turned out to be Adani's gateway to global trade through imports of polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
In 1985, it began importing primary polymers for small industries. In 1988, Adani founded Adani Exports Limited, now known as Adani Enterprises Limited, the holding company of the Adani group. Originally, the company dealt with agricultural products and energy.
In 1991, economic liberalization policies turned out to be favorable for his company and he began to expand its activities in the trading of metals, textiles, and agricultural products.
In 1994, the Gujarat government announced the management outsourcing of the port of Mundra, and in 1995 Adani was awarded the contract.
In 1995, he established the first pier. Originally operated by Mundra Port & Special Economic Zone, operations have been transferred to Adani Ports & SEZ Limited (APSEZ). Today, the company is the largest private multi-port operator. The Port of Mundra is the largest private-sector port in India, with the capacity to handle nearly 210 million tons of cargo annually.
In 1996, Adani founded Adani Power Limited. Adani Power owns thermal power plants with a capacity of 4620 MW, the largest private producer of thermal energy in the country.
In 2006, Adani entered the power generation business. From 2009 to 2012, he acquired Abbot Point Port in Australia and Carmichael Coal in Queensland.
In May 2020, Adani won the world's largest solar bid from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) worth $ 6 billion. The photovoltaic power plant project from 8000 MW will be taken over by Adani Green, and Adani Solar will establish 2000 MW of additional production capacity for solar cells and modules.
Adani Group
In 1988, he started Adani Enterprises Limited (formerly known as Adani Exports Limited), a leading company of the Adani Group. The company traded in agricultural products. The policies of economic liberalization of 1991 accelerated the huge profits of Adani Exports.
In 2006, Adani Exports was renamed Adani Enterprises Limited.
In 1993, the Gujarat government invited private companies to operate the Mundra port and in 1995 the Adani Group was awarded the contract. Today, Mundra Port is India's largest private-sector port with a capacity of about 210 million tonnes of cargo per annum.
Privacy
Gautam Adani is married to Priti Adani and has two children.
He was kidnapped and held hostage for a ransom in 1998 but was released without collecting the money. He was in the Taj Hotel during the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
Philanthropy
Gautam Adani is the president of the Adani Foundation, funded by the Adani group. It was founded in 1996. In addition to Gujarat, the Foundation operates in the states of Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha.
In March 2020, he contributed ₹ 100 crore to the PM CARES Fund through the philanthropic arm of his group, to fight the Coronavirus outbreak. A contribution of ₹ 5 crores was made to the Gujarat CM Relief Fund and ₹ 1 crore to the Maharashtra CM Relief Fund.
