Rohit belongs to Mangalore city of Karnataka. His father was the famous fight master of Hindi and Kannada films, M.B. Shetty also acted in some films. Rohit has been fond of films since childhood.

Rohit himself says that acting is not under his control. He wanted to become a director from the very beginning. Although he continues to appear in small roles in some films.
Film direction
Rohit Shetty started his career at the age of 17 as an assistant director with Kuku Kohli's film Phool Aur Kaante. This film was also Ajay Devgan's first film. After this Rohit also worked with Kuku on another Kohinoor film but this film could not be released. Rohit also worked with Kuku in the films Suhaa, Haqeeqat a, and Zuli.
Rohit also worked as an assistant director in Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha with Anees Bazmee Due to being associated with Ajay Devgan's films from the early stages of his career, the two developed a good friendship. This was the reason why Ajay added Rohit as an associate director in his film Raju Chacha.
Rohit started his career as an independent director in the 2003 film Zameen starring Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Bachchan. Zameen s performance at the box office was average. The 2006 comedy film Golmaal: Fun Unlimited brought Rohit to the ranks of successful Bollywood directors. The film did very good business at the box office. It was the first hit film of Rohit's career.
In 2008, Rohit directed his third film, Sunday. Ajay Devgan, Arshad Warsi, Irrfan Khan, and Ayesha Takia were in the lead roles in this film. The film was also a hit at the box office. The next film in the Golmaal series Golmaal Returns was also a hit.
The 2009 Rohit Shetty-directed film All the Best: Fun Begins was one of the highest-grossing films of that year. Golmaal 3, the third film in the Golmaal series, turned out to be a blockbuster.
Rohit, who became popular with the Golmaal series, directed the action film Singham in 2011 with Ajay Devgn as the lead actor, followed by comedy films. It proved to be the most successful film of Shetty's career. It is also one of the films included in the 100 crore club of Bollywood. After the immense success of Singham, Rohit Shetty became famous as an action director in Bollywood.
In 2012, Rohit once again directed the film Bol Bachchan starring Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Bachchan. In this film, Amitabh Bachchan appeared in item number Bol Bachchan. Golmaal 3 and Singham After that, this film earned more than Rs 100 crore.
Rohit Shetty is the only director whose three films Golmaal 3 Singham and, d Bol Bachchan is in the 100 crore club. Karan Johar heaped praise on Rohit Shetty and Bol Bachchan, saying that he is undoubtedly the most mainstream person we have in the industry. After this, Rohit is going to make Chennai Express with superstar Shahrukh Khan. The film has been sold for Rs 105 crore even before its release.
