Shivaji Rao Gaekwad (born 12 December 1950), known professionally as Rajinikanth, is an Indian actor who works primarily in Tamil cinema.
In addition to acting, he has also worked as a producer and screenwriter. He has won many awards, including four Tamil Nadu State Film Best Actor Awards and a Filmfare Best Tamil Actor Award. The Government of India has honored him with the Padma Bhushan (2000) and the Padma Vibhushan (2016).
He received the Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan Award for Excellence in Indian Cinema at the 4th Vijay Awards. At the 45th International Film Festival of India (2014), he was conferred with the "Centenary Award for Indian Film Personality of the Year". At the 50th edition of the International Film Festival of India (2019), he was honored with the Icon of Global Jubilee award.
Following his debut in K. Balachander's 1975 Tamil drama Apoorva Raagangal, Rajinikanth's acting career commenced with a brief phase of portraying antagonistic characters in Tamil films. The Suresh Krishna-directed Baashha (1995) in which Rajinikanth played a crime boss, was a major commercial success in his career and earned him a 'god-like' status in Tamil Nadu. Sivaji (2007) was the first Indian film to enter the 100 Crore Club.
After earning ₹26 crores (equivalent to ₹63 crores or US$8.9 million in 2019) for his role in Sivaji, Rajinikanth became the highest-paid actor in Asia after Jackie Chan at the time. He played dual roles, as a scientist and an andro humanoid robot, in the science fiction film Enthiran (2010) and its sequel 2.0 (2018), both being India's most expensive production at the time of their release, and among the highest-grossing Indian films of all time.
Rajinikanth is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most popular actors in the history of Indian cinema. His popularity has been attributed to his uniquely styled dialogues and idiosyncrasies in films, as well as his political statements and philanthropy.

Chilhood of Rajnikanth
Rajinikanth was born on 12 December 1950, to the Toa Marathi family in Bangalore, Missouri, India, which is now part of Karnataka. He is named after Chhatrapati Shivaji, Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, a warrior who brought Marathi and Kannada people.
Rajinikanth's ancestors came from a village called Mavdi Kade Pathar, now a place called Purandar Taluka in the Pune district of Maharashtra. The youngest of the two sisters was Rajinikanth's father, Ramji Rao Gaikwad, a police constable.
His father retired from work in 1956, and his family moved to Hanumanthanagar and built a house there. At the age of six, Rajinikanth was admitted to the Gavipuram Government Kannada Model Primary School and completed his primary education there.
As a child, he was very interested in playing cricket, football, and basketball and was very naughty. At this time his brother took him to the Ramakrishna Math established by the Ramakrishna Mission.
In the monastery, he learned the Vedas, traditional and historical texts, which influenced his mind. Along with his spiritual education, he also started acting in monastery plays.
