In recent years, taking advantage of his success and an increasingly heterogeneous musical interest, he has had the opportunity to participate, as a producer or simple guest, in various musical projects of various styles ( hip-hop, punk rock, alternative rock, rap, pop, and even country music ).

Biography of Travis Barker

Barker was born in 1975 in a poor neighborhood in Fontana, California, and was given his first drum kit at the age of four. At the age of five, he received drum and trumpet lessons.

After his school career, during which he played snare in several school miners' trains, he joined several bands under the name Baron Von Tito, including Feeble, The Suicide Machines, and The Aquabats. He earned money through small part-time jobs and by giving drum lessons.

When his band at the time, The Aquabats, toured the United States with Blink-182 in 1998, Blink-182 drummer Scott Raynor suddenly left his band. Since Barker accepted the offer to represent Raynor for the evening, he had to learn the complete set of Blink-182, which at the time consisted of more than 20 songs, in less than 90 minutes. Since he succeeded in doing this, he was asked if he wanted to stay with Blink-182 permanently until Raynor returned. Two weeks later, Blink offered him to become a permanent part of the band, as the drummer would not be back.

Barker's first marriage was to Melissa Kennedy. In October 2004, he married former Miss USA Shanna Moakler, with whom he has a son, Landon Asher Barker, born in 2003, and a daughter, Alabama Luella Barker, born in 2005. Together they entered the MTV - reality show Meet the Barkers. After the divorce was filed in August 2006, the couple found themselves repeatedly briefly in the following years but separated for good in the spring of 2009.

In 2005, Blink-182 announced a "break for an indefinite period". However, the band announced the reunion at the 51st Grammys on February 8, 2009, and released the album Neighborhoods in September 2011.

Broken arms and aircraft crashes

On the +44 tour in November 2006, he broke his arm while shooting the video for When Your Heart Stops Beating, after which he continued to play the rest of the tour with only one arm. He replaced all hits of the right hand with a sophisticated playing technique of his left hand and additional floor pedals that enabled him to control sounds with his feet. After the temporary healing, he broke his arm again during a performance in Amsterdam, so his friend Gil Sharone stepped in for him.

On the night of September 20, 2008, Barker's Learjet 60 crashed while taking off from an airport outside of Columbia, South Carolina. According to a report by the FAA, air traffic controllers noticed during take-off that the aircraft was generating sparks. Thereupon the machine came off the runway, broke through a fence, and raced across the street into a guardrail, where the plane exploded.

Four people were killed: Barker's personal assistant and friend Lil 'Chris Baker, bodyguard Charles Still, and both pilots. Barker and the late Adam Goldstein, known as "DJ AM" were taken to a hospital specializing in burns with burn injuries. Barker suffered burns from the waist down, and "DJ AM" suffered burns to his face. It is now believed that a blown tire was to blame for the accident. Barker discontinued his vegetarian diet and ate meat again after 25 years, believing it would help him recover. Since 2012, he has been vegan for health reasons.

Since the plane crash, Barker has suffered from an enormous fear of flying. This goes so far that the drummer was unable to take part in the 2013 Australian tour.

In addition to projects

In 2002, Barker along with his bandmates from Blink-182, Tom DeLonge, the alternative band Box Car Racer, and in 2002 along with Tim Armstrong of Rancid, the punk - hip-hop - Country band transplants, but now dissolved again. Furthermore, Barker has been playing in the band +44 with his bandmate from Blink-182, Mark Hoppus, and with Craig Fair Baugh and Shane Gallagher from The Nervous Return since the end of 2005. In 2006, Barker played a few songs for Avril Lavigne's third album. The Best Damn Thing one. In 2008 he contributed a song ("Dope Boys") to The Games' third album LAX.

Barker also owns its own clothing label called "Famous Stars And Straps" (FSAS). His drum kits are from the American custom label Orange County Drums and Percussion (OCDP), with which he has an endorsement contract. He is also sponsored by the “ Zildjian ” pool brand, with which he also has an endorsement contract. He can also be found as a playable character in Tony Hawks Project 8 and Guitar Hero World Tour.

Career as a solo artist

In March 2011, Barker's first solo album was released under the title Give the Drummer Some. In addition to Barker as a drummer, the album, which is primarily focused on hip-hop, features numerous other musicians, including Yelawolf, Ludacris, Slash, Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill, Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes, Pharrell, Lupe Fiasco, Raekwon, Kid Cudi, Tim Armstrong, and Corey Taylor.

The Rolling Stone listed Barker in 2016 to rank 99 of the 100 best drummers of all time.

Commercial affairs of Travis Barker

An accomplished musician and informed businessman, Travis Barker are diversifying his activities. Thus, in 1999, he founded Famous Stars and Straps, a company specializing in the sale of clothing and derivatives.

In 2004, he participated in the creation of LaSalle Records, a music production company. Finally, he opened the restaurant Wahoo's Fish Tacos in Norco (California).

He also developed in collaboration with the company DC Shoes three pairs of Remix shoes and distributed his image and name for products of the brands Orange County Drum and Percussion and Zildjian.
