Maria Sakkarī is a Greek tennis player .

First Greek woman semifinalist in a Grand Slam tournament in the Open Era (96 years after Helene Contostavlos ), she won a WTA title in two finals played, becoming the third Greek tennis player in history, after her mother Angelikí Kanellopoúlou and Eléni Daniilídou to access the final of a major circuit tournament.

It boasts position 18 in the world ranking as best ranking.

Biography 

Her mother, Angelikí Kanellopoúlou, was also a top 50 WTA professional tennis player in the 1980s. Maria has a brother and a sister (Yannis and Amanda). He currently lives in Monte Carlo but has lived in Barcelona in the past to train. His favorite tennis players are Serena WilliamsRoger Federer, and Rafael NadalHis coach is German Puentes. She is coached by Tom Hill.

Career

At the junior level, he has won a total of 12 ITF titles (seven in singles and five in doubles).

She made her debut on the WTA circuit in 2012 at the International Women's Championships in Palermo, where she reached the second round of qualifiers. 

In 2013 she took part in qualifying for the Qatar Total Open thanks to a wild-card but was defeated in the first round.

2016-2017 

In 2016 he took part in the Swiss Open and left the scene in the first round at the hands of Anett Kontaveit (5-7 1-6).

In Istanbul he reaches his second WTA semifinal. Here he overtakes Cagla Buyukakcay for 7-5 6-2, Aleksandra Krunić for 6-3 6-1 and Arantxa Rus for 6-3 7-6 (6); loses against Polona Hercogfor 4-6 2-6. 

In Madrid she was eliminated in the first round by Kiki Bertens with a double 4-6.

At the Internationals of Italy he goes back to Bertens defeating her 6-2 4-6 6-3; overcomes the 6th seeded, Karolína Plíšková , 3-6 6-3 7-5. Game characterized by great ups and downs by both tennis players.

2019: first WTA title and three hundred victories
