Betty Marion White is an American actress, comedian, and TV presenter, best known for her roles in the television series Golden Girls, as well as in The Mary Tyler Moore Show. From 2010 to 2015, White played the role of Elkie Ostrowski in the sitcom Pretty Women in Cleveland, for which she received two Screen Actors Guild Awards for Best Actress in a Comedy Series and received an Emmy nomination for the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, 2011. She has also published several books during her career spanning more than eighty years.
During her television career, the actress won six Emmy awards and was nominated for the award twenty-three times. She is the only actress to win every comedy award possible. She also became the first woman to win a Best Game Show Host in 1983 and holds the record for the longest gap between nominations - the first in 1951 and the last in 2015. In 2014, at the age of 92, she became the oldest Emmy nominee in history. Her contributions to television have starred on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Early life
Betty Marion White was born in Oak Park, Illinois on January 17, 1922. It is the daughter of Horace L. White, traveling salesman and electrical engineer, and Tess Chains. Her maternal grandfather emigrated from Greece and her paternal grandfather from Denmark. Their family moved to Los Angeles during the Great Depression. Betty attended Horace Mann School in Beverly Hills, California, and Beverly Hills High School.
Career
1939-1979
Betty White began her television career three months after graduating from high school in 1939 when she and a classmate sang songs from The Merry Widow on a TV series of the time. Betty at that time found work as a model and also began her career at the Maly Theater. But when World War II began, the actress joined American women volunteers. After the end of the war, she actively worked on radio and various television shows. She soon began hosting her own show, The Betty White Show.
In 1952 she began to work actively in Hollywood. Betty has been involved in the development of several comedy shows that have become successful. From 1953 to 1955, she starred in the sitcom Life with Elizabeth. This show made White very popular and in demand and led her to her first Emmy nomination. The show premiered in the fifties and White became virtually the first female comedian to star in a sitcom.
In 1954, she became the star of the NBC talk show The Betty White Show and her own comedy Date with the Angels, which aired from 1957 to 1958. She then starred on the big screen in Advice and Consent in 1962.
Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, she appeared extensively in various popular shows and films. In 1983, she became the first woman to win a Daytime Emmy in the Best Host of Show category. She hosted several game shows, including The Password Show from 1961 to 1975. She married her colleague Allen Ladden in 1963.
In 1973, White joined the comedy The Mary Tyler Moore Show. As a result of her involvement, she received the most important role in her career. She again won an Emmy for her role in 1977.
In 1973, she sang one of her most famous roles on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Sue Ann Nivens, and again won two Emmy Awards. After the show ended in 1977, she landed the lead role in The Betty White Show for CBS
1980-2000
From 1983 to 1985 she starred in the comedy "Family Mama" together with a future colleague on the show " The Golden Girls " Roux MakKlenahan. She also appeared on The Carol Burnett Show.
In 1985, she began acting in Golden Girls, a show about the lives of four widowed or divorced women of venerable age. She again won an Emmy and received several more nominations for various awards. 2000-2021
In December 2006, she guest-starred on The Defiant and the Beautiful as Anne Douglas, the matriarch of the family. She periodically returned to this role for three years. In 2009, she left the show and her character dies from a complication of the disease.
In 2007, she starred in a parody of Ugly, called Ugly Betty White. She also starred in the series itself as Betty White, her on-screen character.
From 2005 to 2008, she played a recurring role on the Boston Lawyers as Catherine Piper. In 2006, she also appeared as a guest on the Comedy Central show, Comedy Central Roast. That same year, she appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, where the cast of The Mary Tyler Moore Show reunited.
