Yedlapati Venkatrao (December 16, 1919 - February 28, 2022) was a senior politician, a member of the Rajya Sabha and the Legislative Assembly, and a farmer leader who served as the Joint Minister of State for Andhra Pradesh. Yedlapati Venkatrao is the Founding President of Sangam Dairy.
Birth and Education
Yedlapati Venkatrao was born on December 16, 1919 in the village of Bodapadu in the Amritalur zone of Guntur district to a peasant family. His parents were Raghavamma and Yedlapati Venkatasubbaiah. He did his BA from Guntur Andhra Christian College and studied Law College in Chennai in 1941, where he served as the President of the Andhra Association. He later practiced law and practiced law. Alavelu married Mangamma. They have a son and a daughter.
Political career
Leading farmer leader NG Ranga joined him as a chief follower. Together with NG Ranga, he played a leading role in the formation of the Krishikar Lok Party in 1951. Later in 1959 NG Ranga joined the Independent Party founded with Rajagopalachari .
He contested from Vemur constituency on behalf of the Independent Party in 1962 and lost the 1965 by-election. Won the Legislative Assembly in the 1967 and 1972 elections. When the Independent Party lost the country in the 1972 Congress debacle, he was the only one to win over all the coastal districts. He then joined the Congress along with NG Ranga Gari and again won the Legislative Assembly from Vemur in 1978. Their work in setting up the Community Dairy and Jampani Sugar Mills is unforgettable.
Marri Chennareddy served as the Minister of Agriculture in the Cabinet (1978-1980) as the Minister of Planning and Justice. He contested as a Congress candidate in 1983 and lost. He later joined the Telugu Desam Party. Defeated again in 1989. He was a member of the Polit Bureau of the Telugu Desam Party and served as the President of the Telugu Raitu.
He was the Telugu Desam candidate in 1995 and served as the Chairman of Guntur Zilla Parishad till 1998. Elected to Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh in 1998. After leaving the Rajya Sabha in 2004, he left active politics and became a member of the Telugu Desam.
Centenary
In 2011, Venkatrao wrote his autobiography titled 'My Life Journey'. On the occasion of their centenary as a selfless politician and farmer leader, their centenary was celebrated on December 19, 2018 in Bodapadu in the presence of Chandrababu. Living a healthy life.
Death
Yedlapati Venkatrao, 102, passed away on February 28, 2022 at his daughter's residence in Hyderabad.
